On Friday night, 28th November 2025, we were absolutely relishing this moment… our very own Pickle Eddie scooped the Pride of St Helens Special Achievement Award!
A huge thank you to the Pride of St Helens Awards, the St Helens Star, and the Steve Prescott Foundation from all of us here at Bartons Pickles. What an incredible honour.
Eddie’s story is the heart of our business and a big part of our town’s heritage. From starting at Bartons Pickles at just 15 years old to still turning up every single day at 83, he’s been as keen as mustard for almost seven decades. He truly knows his onions, keeping St Helens’ favourite pickles (and its traditions!) alive with hard work, pride, humour, and a whole lot of love.
When Eddie realised the award was for him, it stopped him in his tracks. Surrounded by his family, there were more than a few tears shed — by all of us. It was a beautiful moment for a wonderful man. Eddie’s acceptance speech was simple, humble and very “Eddie”:
“To make a success in business, you need good staff… and I’m lucky to have the very best.”
What a night. What a community. What a town.
St Helens is bursting with talent, spirit and pride, and every single person there was a winner in our eyes.
